Adventure or SMT?

Hello everyone,

I'm decided to buy a new KTM 990, but my dude is what one: The Adventure or the SMT.

I like ride as a hooligan in roads like the Tail of Dragon, that are very common here in Chile, but the Dakar is the biggest adventure this summer. Also the most beautiful places are at the end of an unpaved road, but I don't travel too much, usually I go for 500 km secondary paved roads day trips with friend and all of us ride very fast.

Another point for the Adventure is the ABS. I commute every day, with sun or rain and the ABS is a security device very important for me.

I'm selling my Yamaha FJR 1300 AS because is not fast in curves, the pegs touch ground too easily. Before the FJR mi bike was a Honda Africa Twin.

Please, your opinions are important for me.

Hi Dias, just wondering which 990 did you decide on? and pm me, im in chile as well and looking at a 990 adventure to replace my harley for the same reasons you gave for dumping your big cruiser.

I have the FJR yet because was impossible to sell it.

As you can see, I can't even spell bridgebuilder. With that being said, I just purchased a new 2008 Adventure 990 a month ago. I bought it because I've heard good things about the KTM and that they can handle anything the BMW can off road.

I'm pretty much on the road about 80% of the time and mild trails for the remaining 20%. I've had my day for fast riding. Now I just like to enjoy the countryside, but be able to jump the ditch and go where I want to.

My question is, what is the rpm range for upshifting on the 990? It feels strong with no bogging at 3000 rpms, and seems to be happy cruising at around 3500. In subdivisions, 2500 seems fine. Does anyone have any information to share?
