Default 540SXC - Pig to start!!!

Hi,

Just got myself a 1999 540sxc, great bike but what a hard job to start up. This is severely effecting my enjoyment and am getting to the point where I am dreading it stopping! I can spend 30mins trying to get it going again
Any tips ?

Ralph

Welcome Ralph.

Here are the things I always checked when my 97 620 started hard.

Valve clearance, this one is MAJOR.

Jetting (what color is the head pipe, if blue then you are too lean).

Air cleaner (is it clean or solid crud?)

Is there an inline fuel filter between the carb and the fuel tank (replace it)?

Those LC4 bikes are very easy to start if your valves are in spec.

Thks bajadog,

All o/k now. Just gave it a good service, checked cab setting spark etc and now starts within a couple of kicks.

Can anyone recommend a small luggage rack I can use to carry the essentials

Check out the LC4 model, a bit pricey, but you can find it
sometimes on ebay for half price.
