Default Gps

dspain, I have not yet, but I did just purchase one for my bike hauler truck, it was a "Mio" brand. I was informed by my local RadioShack dealer that many of these GPS brands are made by the same manufacturer.I don't know how much truth there is to this, but the model I purchased works well, and has all the features of the other more known brands.I had not never heard of the "Mio" brand before walking into the store that day. I was gonna buy one at that point anyway, but at $200.($50. cheaper than the others) I felt it was a wise choice. All this said, "motorcycle GPS" units may also be marketed in this manner. I know mine saved me alot of hassle and wasted fuel expense last weekend getting off of the NJ Turnpike to go find the RM 250 I was after!Man , what a nightmare! Those folks,in that area, WOW! That would've been ugly without the GPS!!The roads are like spagetti!! with potholes!

Thanks I checked them out. I'm after the TomTom Rider or Garmin Zumo 550 appearantly they are water and vibration proof, motorcycle specfic. I was wondering about the mapping software for pre routing on my PC. Rding from Ontario to the Gap in June and wanted to set out a back road route. Ive got it set up in Google Maps as a 20 hour twisty ride. I don't know were any gas stations etc are. I wanted to plan it before I go. But thanks for the info.

Hi, looks like you have a superduke. I picked up an '08 this year. I bought a Zumo for it and am very happy with the set up. It is a good, easy to use unit. I have always liked the garmin units.

As far as mounting, I found the hot set up to be a modified Ram ball mount to replace the tank mount bolt. I got this from http://www.telferizer.com.

The wiring is then easy with accessory wires behind the front mask and the appropriate fuse subbed into the fusebox.

If you would like pictures or other info, let me know.

I really like it!! It handles so much better than my last bike. It really is everything I hoped for. I am going to go to a 40t rear to give it more down low, as it seems 38 provides more top end than the aerodynamics realistically allow. I would complain about the aero's but I know I shouldn't be doing over 200 anyway.

I was too busy this season so didn't get any big trips but am planning some for next year already.

Do you have any of the fueling issues guys complain about? I have Evo's slip-ons and the Akra map and it is very smooth, even down low.

Here is how I mounted my Zumo,

I have no fueling issues, I put the FMF Apex with Akro map and same thing very smooth. My dealer set mine and another one on the same day and comented how smooth it was compared to the other. Guess we got the good ones Your install looks good I mounted mine similar but I used the the head light mask bolt on top. You planning a ride for next year? We are riding from Ontario to Deals Gap in June 1437km one way, all back twisty roads, can't wait.
