I want to do an experiment with the battery. I want to put a gel cell in my friend's '56 H-D KHK. I have an unused original style battery with a broken terminal . I want to clean out the battery and place a 5 V gel cell in it. The biggest problem seems to be figuring out how to connect the gel cell to the existing terminals. If this done correctly, I'll have a modern battery that looks exactly like the original.

My question is: Does anyone know how to affix the terminals to the hollowed-out case?

depending on how this looks you could make a custom aluminum bracket to fit on the inside of the box under the top of the case, put copper teminals through existing opening and mount them to the aluminum bracket either tap the terminal and screw it to the bracket or you could always do it the quick way and 2-part epoxy it to the underside inside the box with a firerated epoxy. like 3M's DP100FR you can get that stuff from mcmastercarr.com
