Firstly welcome to our forum.

I could point you to some good threads about jetting a
bike with jets and needles you mix and match your self.

My opinion is spend the money and get a JD kit.

James Dean has spent a lot of research on the dyno to
make these kit almost plug and play.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Let me know if you still want to
try self tuning your carb.

thanks guys!
me and my dad used to jet my 85 back when i was 15, we would tune it for every throttle position by checking the plug and going by feel, it ripped great. but my bike was stolen and we have forgotten our old ways.

soo the book tells me, set my idle to something like 1500rpm not sure off the top of my head (and i dont have a tach) and turn the mixture screw in till the rpms fall, then turn it out till they fall and find the best inbetween to my understanding, how ever i just turn my idle screw to were it sound right, then when i go to turn the mix screw it doesnt change a whole hell of alot,, what does this mean??
