Default 690sm k&n and leo vince full system remap

I fitted air filter and full system today and got immediate result, more torques mainly, I havent had it remapped yet as I was planning to get akra map at ktm dealers.

Anyways, I like the popping and growl on decel and thats all the KTM dealer guy told me the akra map would fix

Is this true do I actually need to remap or is it personal preference???

Im just worried i may be doing harm if i dont remap???

Advice please

Default If just done the Leo Vince, and drilled the air box with KTM foam filter

Hi,
I'm sure someone will jump at some stage.

I've been told that just changing the slip-on...shouldn't need a remap
Adding the filter..not sure
Changing the exhaust as well would suggest that it might need it...the bikes are lean when standard, and normally opening up the breathing with these mod's increased the leanness again. Popping on deceleration is normal sign of lean or exhaust leaks or both...

I'm going to put mine on a dyne and check the power and the Fuel/air mixture.

If you are not able to get to the dealer to do the remap but want/need to use it anyway; the first thing you really must do is the idle remap process:

Leave the bike overnight and do this from stone cold; do NOT bother doing it with a warm engine as it won't work correctly.

First up: with the key on but the engine NOT started, slowly open the throttle to full and back again to fully closed. Do this slowly so the system can learn the extent of your throttle travel. Turn the key off.

Next: Start the bike with NO THROTTLE AT ALL (very important). Leave it to idle for 15 minutes. Do this outside so there's good airflow to the radiators if possible but don't worry when the cooling fan comes on.
After 15 minutes the computer will have learned your new settings and will adjust the fuel mixture to suit. Turn off the key and it's done.

Last: This will help but is not a permanent substitute for a proper tune and chip flash at your dealer. The learning system is only good for changes in mixture to say 10-15%. As soon as you can, get it mapped professionally.

Hi,
I forgot that this thread was active...and have done a lot since then.

(I have another thread here : http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ght=690+motard)

I got the dyno result (its on the kiwibiker thread), and it came out very good under full throttle (power and fueling) so I was happy that I wasn't doing damage. I did the idle remap, and the bike would start and idle no prob's, no popping on decel etc....intermittent low rev stalls but all manageable

HOWEVER...After another month of riding, and especially now that us southern hemisphere are entering the warmer months..My bike has hit max temp twice now
on the slow idle, commute to work - it has never done this before. After checking all the obvious things (coolant, oil, fins, caps etc)...I then wondered about the leaness, so I took the spark plug out...wow - white as!

So while everything is generally ok...its not perfect - so I've gone and had the Akra map installed.

It feels and runs smoother/better. I can feel more bottom end, and its like the gaps in the rev's have been filled in. Its far better at running at lower revs during the boring commute I can now keep in one gear...whereas before I had to cycle between gears.

Its not a radical change, but it is noticeable if you have bike awareness.

Will be interesting now what my fuel economy will be like, as with it leaner...I was getting 22Ks per liter

I'm in Auckland and had overheating problems a while back (within warranty) That turned out to be a blown head gasket and was fixed under warranty. I had a noticeable power drop and poor running. Keep an eye on that.

White plugs on modern unleaded fuel might mean nothing at all. It's a lot harder to read fuel mixture from plugs nowdays; better to check fuel/air ratios on the dyno.

Re milage: I get about 150km to reserve if I fang it and 170km if I don't. That's about 15 km per litre and I've seen worse too.
I rarely ride at an economical pace but this weekend am riding to Wellington so I will be cruising. Have fitted the 14 litre Safari front fuel tank for more range. Butt ugly but worth the money.
