Default Newbie Questions

I just bought a new 2008 990 SD but I have not picked it up yet since the dealer had to order me a custom spring for the rear shock. So while they are doing that I took the time to read my owners manual and now I have two questions.

1. My dealer said I should get my valves adjusted at 5000 miles and the owners manual said that it should be done at 600 miles. So what is correct ?

2. My dealer said that I can change my own oil but the owners manual said that if I did I would void my warranty. So what is correct ?

Thanks >>>>> Inthered

On the valves if it were me, I'd check them at 600.

The internal motor parts are pretty much broken in by then, and
from my past experience with KTMs the exhaust might be tight.

As far as the oil change, I would call KTM USA @ 440-985-3553, and
ask (get the persons name too).

I have never owned any vehicle that required oil changes to be done
at a dealership, and I've had 3 new KTMs over the last 15 years or so.

If your dealer says you can do your own oil changes and that is where you would claim warranty if you have any issues.... if you trust your dealer it shouldn't be a problem. My dealer has covered items under warranty and I have done all my own work. I let them do the first service though.
