Default duke R bad oil pressure light

New to KTM forum , Picked up a 2008 duke R 990 from a bike collector with only 500 miles on it , so i took it to the dealer and had the oil chanced as well as checked , so they tried to talk me into a valve adjustment which i thought was not right so i pasted and later found out that the R's don't need it until 8 thousand or so . But here is my biggest problem after they said that i had to use Motorex oil and only that it didn't sound right . the funny part about it is that they tried to put in 60 weight because that's all they had , so i had to explain to the service manager that is not the right weight 15/50 or 10/40 . Funny but all of a sudden Motul was good enough for the bike ( that's whats they had in stock ) i am fine with that since i know that is good oil , i was just worried about the weight . Here's my main problem with in about 50 mile's my oil light goes on so i freaked out and had it towed to the dealer where they check it on the computer and said that everything is fine its just the oil that was causing the light to go on and when we put Motorex back in the light will go off on the next oil change , well i am not going to ride around with a red light in my face . I have been around all kinds of motors and i have never herd that BS before . Any comment's ?

Default oil for ktm

i go to a dealer where the head machanic is a ktm fanatic, he is called by ktm regularly and has KTM DOC as the license plate of his shop van. he insists that the only oil to use in the single cyl bikes is the motorex 10-60. these motors need fast initial oil flow to the head to prevent damage. also because of this it is imperative that the oil filters are preoiled prior to installation to prevent dry start up.

10W60 i sthe recommended one but even in the Manual it mentions that 10W50 can be used. I am not sure if the brand is of importance as long as it is under the SAE certificates.

By the way not sure how you can get a Duke R in 2008 it was realesed in 2010 and only in 690 cc.

I think they released the Superduke R in 2007.

BTW. My buddy has a 2009 990 Adventure, and the manual claims 10w-40, 10w-50. The caveat was 100% synthetic WITHOUT friction modifiers.

The oil light is caused by the warning light wire running too close to the coolant pipes. It gets too hot and the warning light comes on.

Have your mechanic re-route the wire and the problem will go away.

Here's a thread on the best source for SD info, superduke.net.
