Default High Mileage DUKE 690s....

I am approaching 20,000 trouble free miles.(I have replaced nothing but tires, oil, and 1 air filter-no Warranty issues at all) I am wondering who else is having similar experience? My bike remains box stock, no engine or airbox/exhaust mods. Runs as good as the day I got it two years ago. Fires up instantly on the original spark plug and battery. Original Chain/Sprockets still great cond. Nothing but Motorex spec oil. Oil/filter changes every 3-4K. I ride it almost every day. Valves remain good.(only checked once @ first and only dealer service it has had) Is there anyone out there with more miles on a 690, or similar experience? (If not, what has worn out on the core: Engine/chassis, or what can I expect to start monitoring closely at this mileage?)

It sounds like you are doing everything right, and not
thrashing the bike.

I have not had a 690, but just rolled to 11K on my 640e.

Since I do ride off road, I lubed the swing arm pivot bearings, and
steering head bearings at about 8K miles.

I run about 1500-2000 on my oil (red line 20W-50) mostly because
it's off road miles.

Well mine is a little over a month old so I need some time to catch up to you. I'm interested if anyone has high mileage as well.

I've done about 20,000kms (12,500miles?) on mine. All routine oil changes and have cleaned the KNN filter once.

Bike's been great, except for fuel pump that died around 17,000kms, a high beam unit that had water ingress issues, and an intake trumpet boot that had cracked - all covered under warranty though . I ride the bike day in day out and would classify the riding as aggressive commuting. I'm also having some annoying chain noises now...still trying to rectify it

Checked the valves once at around 7000kms. They were fine, am scheduled to do another valve check soon

ahh yes! Sorry i forgot to mention it. I've got a 690 duke and am from Malaysia Seriously can't figure out this chain...perhaps it was buggered up the last time one of the workshops adjusted it wrongly?

I've go down to using a ruler everytime i want to measure/set the chain tension

Wink

Its easy to misinterpret the manual on the chain tension, with the 5mm from the bottom of swingarm at the centerpoint method. You just want about 1.5 inches of slack or play while on the sidestand. Then keep it lubed regularly.

I see, so basically while on the sidestsand, i just measure that there's about 1.5inches of play in total, or up and down, and from the center rib of the swingarm?

Sorry for pestering, the sound is getting quite disturbing/scary, mainly when going over rough roads, or sometimes under light acceleration.
