Default Jerky throtel response

Well, I know singles are a bit special to ride but my duke (690 R) is way hard on low rpm's. The fact is that FI systems don't precisely help on this matter.

I used to ride carburated Honda XR and was a lot easy at low rev's.

Are you always going through clutch and gears everytime you ride? (even dropping 2 - 3 gears in a row just to catch up power again?

Does shortening final transmision improve a lot the issue?

It's just amazing how many times I get to switch gears on a normal ride. Everytime I drop down 3000 rpm's I must switch gear.

thanks,

Hey Crissis,

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but
I have read on other sites that this throttle response
is either a FI mapping issue or a throttle cam issue.

I can send you the link to a good thread on ADV rider if
you don't have access to that site.

I am still an old carb guy.....

Well the LC4 is not happy at all under 3000 RPM so yes you have to shift to keep the rpms above 3000. As far as jerky throttle response goes, it is jerky on ignition map 2 but if you switch to map 3 it's a lot easier to control. After riding this bike for a few months I have adapted my riding style to the throttle response.

Some resort to using a throttle cam to smooth out the response. I personally dont mind the throttle response but if it bothers you then try the cam.

Just tried mapping nš2 and it is waaaaayyyyy better than nš3. Definitely i can get use to this. Still need to rev over 3000 as you said, to keep engine alive.

Thank you Duke.

Glad I could help. Map 2 has incredible performance but I feel that it is reserved for racing. It's a super direct ignition response as you know. I think it is like an on/off switch instead of a throttle. Map 3 is a good all around street map.

Your a lucky guy to have the "R" model by the way.

I think you have it the wrong way around. At least in my manual, 1 is super mellow easy riding, 2 is sport race setting, 3 is the middle ground. I know mine set at 2 is noticeably more responsive than when at 3 or 1.

Yes, RPM management(rider), throttle tube fix, or drop a tooth on the front drive sprocket to help, and setting #3 definitely is the smoothest. If you are super fortunate, you can find a KTM technician that can finesse the FI system/TPS/mapping. They are very rare.

Yes your right. Sorry for the mixup. Same description as before just swap two and three.

Has anybody experimented with maps 4 through 9?

Well, mine is a lot smothier in position nš2. Position nš3 is harder to control.
