Newbie ...what is this part???

I just bought a like new (1300 miles) 2008 690 Duke today. Me so Happy ! But, I have a few question and need some help:

So I'm sitting in the garage making zoom zoom noises and for the first time I notice a small black rectangle by the left handle bar clamp. It has a small round door on it that swings to the left and uncovers what looks like a maybe receptacle for a small electrical plug------

1. is this an add-on or a stock item ? what is it ?

2. since it is injected, is there any need to turn off the gas petcocks when it is parked/sitting ?

3. did not get the "key card"with the code number on it with the bike so any suggestions on how to get an extra key made ?

1. Sounds like an add on electrical receptacle (GPS? Radar Detector? Battery charger?, heated riding gear?)

2. No, but you need to wait until the injectors do the initial priming before hitting the starter button (after the speedo needle makes a full sweep)

Hey man have you got pics of the part on the handlebar? mite know more if I see it but dont think its standard
