Default 600 mile sevice

I just picked up a superduke last week and I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the first service. I went to the KTM dealer down the street from me and he was quoting me around $600. How much are people paying for this service and do you really need the valves checked after just 600 miles? Any info would be appreciated.

Default 600 mile service

I just had my Adventure 990 serviced for the 600 mile scheduled service. $700. That hurt. They said the first service is a biggie because of the need to adjust the valves. They said the next service would amount to an oil change, which is pretty complicated (based on the owner's manual). If the bike didn't have such a solid reputation, I would have revolted. But I've never had a bike that handled quite like the Adventure, even a BMW R1200GS (over engineered, overpriced and highly overrated). I want to be one of those owners that puts 100k on the bike and doesn't regret one penny of the dollars spent. Pay them and keep riding.

Thanks for the input, I absolutely love the bike and even if it does cost me a few bucks for the first service, it'll be worth it. I just wanted to make sure that I'm not paying too much for something that is not necessary. Now, it's just a matter of choosing the most reputable place to take it to.

First 600 miles does not require valves adjustment
