Default Making the Duke more "off-roadable"

Hey guys,

2nd post and totally new to KTM so I hope you'll all bear with me.

I'm getting a 2011 Duke 690 but I want to make it more capable in handling light trails, gravel, fire roads and such.

My plan is to replace the tires with Pirelli Scorpion Trail or something that's good for 20-30% offroad use.

I also plan to replace that big fat muffler in the bottom with a highpipe setup. So far, I only found SC Project with high pipes for the Duke. This mod alone adds 2-3 inches of ground clearance.

Has anyone else tried making the Duke more off-road capable?

Any inputs are greatly appreciated.

regards,

lorsban

good question. I have to ride my duke 690 down 2.5miles of gravel every day...and it sucks compared to my dual sport...until I hit the highway

Hope someone can chime in.

There was a few superduke entries into Pikes Peak, so I'm asssuming they must have done some tire mods and such. Don't know if any 690's raced.

Ya, KTM has bikes that can handle offroad in this configuration but I find them too hardcore for my kind of riding. The Duke is just perfect in terms of looks, comfort. It's just restrained by poor pipe location and tire selection.

Anyway, I have a bunch of friends that have been using Pirelli Scorpion Trails and Sync and have reported some good reviews about them so I've actually ordered a set for myself already. I'll post results after I try them out.

I mean, we're not planning to race these bikes, we just want to be able to use them in more situations with a bit more confidence.
