Default Adjusting rear shock pre-load...PITA

How in the heck do you get the shock adjusting tool in to adjust the pre-load on the rear shock? Seems impossible to get at.

How much dissasembly is needed?

Do I need a special tool? Right now I have this one for my Honda Machines...

Thanks,

Has anyone done this before? I'm sure I'm not the first.

My dealer is useless and has no clue.

Which bike. Super Duke is pretty easy if you have the KTM shock tool. On my RC8R, I used a drift punch and was careful. They are a bit fiddly, how often do you have to adjust it?

Sorry ;-)

Duke 690

Is it the same as the superduke?

Should my dealer be able to order me one? Any idea of the part #?

I only have to adjust it once to get it dialed in.

This is your boy.

KTM Shock Spring Adjustment Tool, Fits all 625-1190cc

Buy it from my buddy Chip Munn, at Munn Racing. Tell Chip that Doug sent you. He gets $22.94 (Listed for $26.00 at KTM Cycle Hutt). Check him out, they will take excellent care of you.

Old, have you actually tried to use that tool on a Duke? I can't find a way to get it onto the the adjustment collar since the frame is in the way. Even after removing the rear brake reservoir.

I can't lie to you, I use a drift punch and a hammer, you can get the KTM tool on it, but you can only move it a touch. Keep in mind I have changed the exhaust and the tail on my SD, so access is a little better.

Default rear shock preload

To set the sag on my 690 Duke I ( WE ) had to loosen the lock ring with a brass punch and hammer, then the KTM tool would barely get in there. It did screw up the little chain adjust decal. Adjusted from the left side. Then lock the lock ring with brass punch.
Hope this helps
