Default Duke 690 air box mod?

Can anybody explain how I would go about doing this? I just have the stock air box assembly right now. Any pictures? I have heard that some people have drilled holes but where? what is the most effective method? Thanks to anybody who replies.

the easiest way is to take the tail section apart to get the best access to it. take out your air filte and youll see the snorkel that goes from the airbox up to the area under your seat. yank that sucker out of there. to further open the airbox up you can take a dremel or hole saw (a big one) and cut open the airbox enlarging the snorkel hole. its kinda like turning your whole tail section into an intake.......

When taking the air filter out I noticed it looks very restrictive, so pretty much make that passage way bigger. So it doesn't matter how you do it just make that snorkel bigger by expanding it right? Can you make a mistake? Cut too much? I'll look into a little more. I already got the bike dynoed so maybe after this I will have to get it dynoed again. Thanks indyZrider.

the snorkel curves up.....when you cut the hole in the back of the box you also straighten the airflow out......when you take it apart youll see what needs to happen......as long as your only cutting the back of the box youll be fine no worries in messing it up......just stick your hand in there and youll feel and figure it out its pretty straight forward.....

Does just taking the snorkel out without cutting the box help at all? It did on my Kawasaki.

Recommendation would be that not open up air box too much(at all) if not also re-map to add more fuel because itīs already lean and even more air would be dangerous to the engine.
Of course if running on a dyno to observe how the changes can take effect on the A/F curves to verify that you are within working limits.

the airbox mod wont make the bike run too lean as long as you get it remapped.......

Sorry another question about this,Is there two snorkels? one in the back of the sea that comes up and then one towards the front of the seat that's circular? basically one on each side of the air filter? Do I want to make snorkel that's located towards the front of the seat wider? or is it the one towards the rear? I have a dyno appointment on Nov 5th I want to get this done before!

I think the rear snorkel intake is the most restrictive and needs widening/removal but might not be enough. Otherwise regarding the airbox holes drilling, look here:

But this is serious ****. The bike would desperately need a remap and probably disable/removal of the O2 sensor as well.

Thanks tolou for the link with pictures, so would you recommend Just taking the rear snorkel out? Or making it wider? Regarding the drilled holes, is the purpose to get more air into the engine? or is it the other way around? If you drill holes into the side of the air box where is that air going? Thanks everybody just trying to make sense of everything.
