Might anyone be able to tell me what the heck the back cannister thingy is with hoses attached, that is fastened inside the tool pack compartment under the seat? I'll be glad to post a photo later, once I figure that out. The box is about 3" wide x maybe 9" long, and maybe 1.5" thick, has a port toward the front of the bike that appears as a nipple for a hose, but no hose, and then two hoses at the opposite (rear) end. I'd sure like to do away with it!?

I think you are referring to the evaporative canister.. If I am not mistaken, I read somewhere that this only applies to the US due to the control of pollution..

sellidra is spot on, it's a US emissions requirement.
