Default Running In

According to the Duke Manual:

Running in the engine:
During the running-in phase, do not exceed the specified engine speed and engine performance.
During the first: 1000 km (621.4 mi): 6000 rpm
After the first: 1000 km (621.4 mi): 7800 rpm
Avoid fully opening the throttle!

Default Running In

I was riding today and thought I'd offer up an observation. Running at 4K rpm in 6th gear, I was traveling at 63 mph. At 5K rpm, I was doing 75 mph. It really isn't difficult to keep it under 6K rpm...

Running In is a hot topic among motorcyclists. Many follow the rules to the letter, and many take a totally different approach to the break-in procedure. Some "ride it like they stole it". Here is a link for your consideration:

FYI, the manual is available for download from KTM.com. Search downloads at the site. Let me know by private message if you have any problems finding it.

Default Manual

I was unable to find the manual for download at the KTM web site. Here is a link for a site that has the 2009 manual available. It's basically identical to '08 and '10.

Great! Enjoy and be careful out there! The bike is tremendous fun, and it's easy to get so involved in what you are doing that you don't see what's going on around you. Report back!
