I read 166kg dry. I think we're not going to see much lighter bikes than manufacturers are producing now. The new 1290SD, Hypermotard and probably others are actually heavier than the previous models. Blame the fckn EU.

Not a Moto 2 bike but 180hp & 140kg sounds impressive.
One in Boldie's pick.

For the same money you could go "full retard" and step up to the Sutter 500
That's 200hp and a lot lighter.

Dry weight is bullsh!t useless info.
Who cares what the bike weighs without fluids or battery or in some cases the weight is without tyres too.
That's like stating that KTM Duke 125 has a top speed of 230kmh. Measured in free fall after being tossed out of a plane.

If ktm doesn't achieve power to weight 0.76hp per kilo they fail (race trim).

But in my opinion the intelligent market is asking for heavy bikes and de-tuned motors.

Rip 30kg of crap off it , insert race profile cam, remove decompression system, open intake mod, open exhaust mod, re tune.
Customer registers a power to weight 0.40hp per kilo bike with low running costs.
Next week they are riding a .80.

This game is going nowhere if leaving owners with hi cost yearly items.
I would pay more for a bike if i knew i could get that back over the years.

Low power to weight may get you cheaper insurance in some cases.
But the money you pay for the tuning & lightening the bike would pay for few years insurance fees.

+ if you need the insurance (crash or it gets stolen) the insurance company won't pay since it was tuned and "not road legal" or if it's stolen they won't pay for any of the parts & work you put on the bike.

So maybe the intelligent choice is to buy an avesome bike out of the store and use your money on riding it.

Something like this www.cannonballism.com

Done 6 Cannonballs so far

Well i know its hard to remove weight if the company doesnt make it easy too.
De restrictions dont cost anything in most cases if its designed that way.
Cam is a little but , anyone can change a cam with a tutorial and tools.

Im just seeing to much road costs for high spec bikes.

What are peoples thoughts on buying a 1st gen 790?

I'm not sure if I should wait a year or so or just roll the dice on a brand new one
