In comments dating way back I was clear on what I hoped the Duke 800 would be (Basically Duke 690 with Nuda 900 engine) and worried about what it might actually be ( **** heavy budget bike from India )

With that prototype they went for the things I had hoped for and added bonkers Kiska style to the mix.
And then stirring it up with "The Scalpel" and better than anything the competition can throw in the mix statements.

They're doing it right and getting people exited.

Now they can't afford to fall short.

Reason to be optimistic I'd say.

170kg fully loaded is ambitious and completely my own aspiration thrown out there.
KTM newer said anything about that.
In this case light is right and the fellows at KTM know that too.

I'm slightly disappointed they didn't carry over the trellis style rear subframe from the 390 and 1290.

They need to bridge the gap between 690 and superduke but in my opinion its needs pretty good figures. Wiwwee i think your figures need to be realised by KTM or they just add filler instead of a scalpel.
The new 2 barrel bike has to come in over power to weight 0.76hp per kilo or its not a scalpel at all.
Traditionally they did a 0.66hp per kilo bike.
The 1260 is such a specimen(power to weight 0.95hp per kilo)

current or near current model specs

Model: KTM 200 Duke
Year: 2015

Torque not hp.
I'm ok with 100+hp which it'll have.
Focus on the things that matter.

70 hp isn't what makes the Duke 690 fun.
It's the weight & Torque/pull it's got.

170kg wet with fuel
159kg wet no fuell & 115hp = 0.73
149kg dry & 115hp = 0.77

my eye was on the prize,I dont think they are any less important than each other and ktm has a standard to keep up, so yes torque and finally HP

Quote:
What the dynamometer is really doing, however, is measuring the torque output of the engine. In a vehicle, torque is measured at various engine speeds, or revolutions per minute (RPM). These two numbers are fed into a formula -- torque times RPM divided by 5,252 -- to arrive at horsepower. The Society of Automotive Engineers has two standards for determining horsepower: net and gross. Gross horsepower removes most loads from the engine, including emission controls, before testing. Net horsepower is what's found by testing the same kind of stock vehicle you'd find at the showroom, and that's the measurement now used in advertising and manufacturer literature.

Horsepower is determined from torque because torque is easier to measure. Torque is defined specifically as a rotating force that may or may not result in motion.

What i meant by providing those stats was to show that ktm had to bring up the package motor power figures +/- weight, which was convenient in (HP/weight) format.

power to weight 0.48hp per kilo is not that racey and collectively we could have all bought a bike company and developed a racey bike with the total amount of throw on components we have all purchased since the 2003 LC4 motor came out.

The figures need to go up for something thats called ready to race.

Just in general though because im not really an Orange guy, although am happy to wave the flag when there is a goal kicked by the team.

They need to run a more strategical breakdown, i guess.

So they just upped the CC in the 690 single cylinder( power to weight 0.48hp per kilo )which is a pretty maxed out motor anyway, although im interested to see where that motor goes in the future.

Enter superduke 1260 (power to weight 0.95hp per kilo) which to my eyes looks effortless in design for its specs.

Wheres the
power to weight 0.80hp per kilo bike
power to weight 0.65hp per kilo bike

They just need to up everything to keep in front of the pack.

I wonder how much it will change from concept bike to production. It looks quite different even from the various spy shots that have been floating around on the net for the last year or so.

Definitely a cool looking bike, would love to have it as a second pure hooligan machine. Personally as it sits now I would stick with my 690. I do a lot of 8 to 12 hour runs as well as a couple of over nighters each year and I couldn't imagine sitting on that seat for that amount of time. I'm also wondering where to put my tank and tail bags
