Default Oil Leak

whats up to all my RC8ers! Just want to throw a question out to everyone...has anyone experienced an oil leak? I've got 2400mi on my 2010 RC8 and can't seem to figure out why she's leaking oil. Oil is collecting under the engine near the front filter but its not leaking from the plug. its a very slow leak but enough to irratate and the bottom line is she's not oil tight. Anyone else experience anything like this? Any suggestions? thanks

Having tried to find slow oil leaks (weeps) I have found the best way
for me is:

Use brake or contact cleaner and hose off the surrounding area (not plastics).

Allow to dry, then give it an hour or so, and use a baby powder shake bottle
(they use corns starch now a days), and give it a few puffs around the
suspected area.

I did find a case leak on my XR650r this way, thankfully still under warranty, as
they had to split the case halves.

That's all I have unless she's under warranty and the dealer is close by.

I just picked up my RC8R.

it has 130 miles. I noticed a very small amount of oil at the bottom of the case and top of muffler last night. I was just hoping it was oil spilled by the dealer/factory.

I really don't trust my dealer to break and seal the case.

Could be the plug they didnt use a new washer or could be the filler pipe some were known to leak at the bottom of the filler where it joins the cases.

I cleaned up the oil and ran the engine for 15 minutes with fairings off. there seems to be a slow seepage from the lower bolt of the oil filter cover. the bolt seems tight and I don't want to strip it so I'll continue to monitor and remedy at the 600 mile service.

I have the exact same problem. Bike is still under warranty, but the dealer isnt very experienced on RC8s. Does anyone know of a dealer on the east coast who you would trust to work on your RC8?

I took the left fairing off and noticed residue oil around the base of the oil filler tube, looks as though I have the infamous "Oil Fill-Tube Leak." Ordered some new Orings from Bike Bandit, should have them in a few days. Has anyone already changed these? Do I need to drain the oil? Any trick to removing the inboard bolt, looks tricky?

Thumbs up Oil Tight

I replaced the oil fill tube o-rings and used some high temp RTV for good measure. Put about 20 miles on her and no signs of a leak, so far so good.
