Default CAUTION!...The 2011 RC8R is different....

Just a heads up for new 2011 RC8R owners!

I own a black 2011 RC8R and have done some mods to it. I found that there are several small changes in the 2011 model year that will cause some fitting problems with OEM and aftermarket performance parts.
When installing the KTM adjustable rear sets, make sure you get the kit for the 2011!! The part number is only one digit of and some dealers will tell you that they are the same, but they went to external thread heim-joints on the shifter linkage versus the internal type on the previous models!

The correct KTM Power-part number for the 2011 RC8R is: 690.03.937.044

Also, the Secondary Alternator Cover made by GB Racing WILL NOT FIT the 2011 RC8R! I am not sure about the cover made by R&G but I would check before buying one.
The reason for the fitting issue is that KTM made the alternator housing a little bigger in 2011!
I spoke with Graham Banks from GB Racing in the UK and he told me that they are working on a new cover that will fit the 11's.
The clutch cover from GB Racing will fit all 2008-2011 R models.

I will post again if I find more problems....

Here are a couple of shots of my 2011 RC8R....

It is the Acropovic Titanium Header and Muffler that KTM offers in their Power Parts assortment. It is a pertfect fit! Sounds awesome and with the dealer installed factory mapping, that is designed for this exhaust system and the high flow air filter, the bike runs phenomenal!

That is going to be the extend of my engine mods though.... since I want the bike to stay reliable for trips.....

Here are a few pics from my recent trip to California....the bike did great, the only issue I had was a bad cooling fan in San Francisco. Luckily the friendly folks from the local KTM dealer, Scuderia West, helped me out and sold me one of their demo bike....
As you can see, I even rode some unpaved roads....I love this bike!!!!

Dud, How far was your ride round trip? I have a Kawasaki C14 Sport Tour, but I'm looking at the RC8R for track days, and also take medium range trips with it as well.

Well...it was about a 2400 mile trip, but I took all back roads. I think the
RC8R is a very comfortable sport bike...... but then I also have to admit, that I "graduated" to the KTM RC8R, from riding "hardtail" choppers for most of my live, so anything probably feels comfy to me!!

The seat is really hard though.....

Very good observation! I love that place! As you pointed out....THE VIEWS ARE ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!
There where a couple of dual sport riders that where shaking their heads at me about half way down the dugway....I stopped and told them: Look...IT IS A KTM..! lol
