Default picking up my 2011 thrus

HI All,
picking up my 2011 on thrus.
pretty excited about it. Just a quick question about break in period. I'm guessing i should be able to do about 100miles on it and then hit it hard? i'll drive it easy for the first 100 but, after that should be all set right? just wanted to hear others thoughts on this.

thanks
marc

the engine has been run in at the factory. hit the road and run it hard observing the rpm limits. don't just cruise on the highway. either accelerate or decel.

check your left cover for leaks.....
make sure your ignition lock works before leaving the dealer.

I bought R&G frame, axle and fork sliders from KTMtwins.com. Get ahold of Ron, nice guy, excellent product, good prices and quick ship. Also Jason at MotovationUSA - I have a set of theirs for my Speed Triple, he couldn't guarantee his would fit the 2011 SMR, and I was headed to a track weekend, so I ordered the R$G's from KTMtwins. Turns out the Motovation's would have worked fine. I did get my LEO exhaust from Motovation and it was a very painless buying experience as usual.

Sick bike btw, I need to get back to the dealership and ride their demo 8

awesome thanks for the info i'll give him a call.

so i took it for spin last night.

i like the way it feels the only thing i noticed was my right leg was getting hottttt.
this thing puts out alot of heat right by leg\foot. i had to lift my leg up a few times it was getting so dam hot right there.

so far thats my only issue i have. Not sure it would even call it an issue but, i need to figure out how to change that some how.

anyone else have an issue with this?

yeah i just don't wanna wear full leathers just take a quick ride or heading to work.

looks like the heat comes from the open vents the bike has on the right side. i see why the r1 and gsxr 1k's have full cover of fairings.

i'm trying to figure out a way to some how devert the heat towards to bottom of the bike instead of back to my leg.

i'll let you know what i come up with.

I hauled mine up to the Smokies the first week I had it. My right calf was actually burned above my boots after the first day of riding. I had to come up with something quick, so I went to WalMart and picked up some elastic, velcro and a cheap stapler. I cut up a window shade that I had in my car and made a heat shield that I could strap to my leg under my pants. Worked like a charm. Now I don't ride the 8 without it.

Necessity is the mother of invention!

i'm not sure if this is one of you guys are not but, he changed out the stock heat sheild and made a better one looks like.

Do we think the heat is coming from the header just wondering? he says after making his own it reduced the amount of heat coming back on the leg.
