Any advice/help appreciated
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and would really appreciate any word of advice on my thoughts. I own an R1 and love the bike, no problems with it, but I'm strongly leaning toward the RC8. Two questions really: 1) would I possibly regret leaving an inline 4 for a v-twin you think? Has anyone done so yet? and 2) I'm not real sure where to pick one up from. (I'd prefer to find used as I don't really have 16,000 lying around). I live in south Louisiana. Any help would be great, I'm just throwing this out there. Thanks yall, have a great day!

Personal preference. I think the inline 4 is going to be a smoother running engine. The V-twin won't be quite as smooth no matter how well it's balanced.
In my experience.... Smoother running engines tend to last longer. Although I ride a Harley now.
Then of course there's the cost involved. I would love to try an RC8. But I'm not willing to spend the money at this point. If I had it, I would.
As far as used bikes in LA go, you can try http://www.themotoshack.com or CycleTrader. (I threw that in just so nobody thinks I'm just promoting my own company.)
Good luck.

R1 to a RC8
I made the transition from a 4 cyc to a v-twin a few months ago and haven’t regretted it yet. Picked my RC8 up in PA for $11,700 new. It does ride a little rough, but makes up for it in so many other ways. You wont be sorry.

Awesome, that's just what I wanted to hear. I could go around 11,000 also, I don't see me going any higher. But I was afraid to lose my R1 and have a bike that just couldn't fill that void...my R1 and I are in an affair with my wife just about every single day lol. About it being a little rough, I could probably get used to that.

Thanks for the links, I will def keep an eye out! And I agree, I think the inline 4 is naturally a smoother ride, but I don't plan on making 700 mile trips on it either lol. Thanks for the input, ride safe!

One more question came to mind. I see you own one Woodstock, what about maintenance? Am I looking at something along the financial wrecking of a Ducati or no? I can do a good bit of work myself and all the oil changes and such are a breeze. And I read along here somewhere that the tank may eventually have swelling due to the ethanol in our fuel...what if its a used bike and I drain it/coat it, think that'd solve that worm before it eats my apple? Thanks for the input yall!

servicing is easy , i have never taken mine back to the shop since i picked it up , i change the oil and filter every other track day , only thing i had go was a faulty coil so just replaced both plug and coils , they are very easy to work on
first thing you will need to do it put on a 40 tooth rear sprocket ,
G2 throttle tube 0.25 , smoother cam at the start but a lot shorter pull .
next would be a pipe cant beat the Akra but the FMF looks ok and its cheap
then go for the Bazzaz system you can run a quick shifter , TC and even a self mapping option .
they may not run the out right lap times of a set up inline 4 but the smile factor while riding them is what its all about and these are so much fun to ride

I just got myself an RC8, maintenance is not really an issue like on a Dudu-cati, but as far as the fuel tank swelling, it needs to be coated before fuel ever gets into it, so you will be wasting your time if you do it the other way around.

Thanks, good to know...I was going to find out if the owner had it done before buying used but I thought I could do it myself if not...guess not. Can't beat owning new but the price is the problem. I'll try to find a dealer some where I think there's one in Texas and maybe Florida.

Sounds like a pretty bad *** set up. Yea I desperately want an aftermarket exhaust, I know they're pretty pricy for this bike though. And your right, smile factor is the main reason for riding...I get a lot of smile factor from my R1 which is why I was hesitant to leave her for something completed new. I'll check out the FMF. What about gutting the OEM exhaust? Any noise/hp changes there worth noting or what. Thanks!
