Default LC4 620 Problems

Hi, im new to this forum, but starting off i bought my first ktm in june it was a 1996 lc4 620, supposedly it had a overhaul fairly recently, the bike has 10,000 miles on it, loads of power and i love it but i ran across some problems on a 300 mile ride, when i was 7 miles away from my destination i was going down the interstate and i felt i was loosing power and i pulled the clutch in and the motor died, before my ride i noticed the the bike had a slight tick to it but once you reved it up it went away, so once i was stopped i tried to restart it, while it had compression once i reached the bottom of the kick i could feel something almost rattling around like something broke, i havent tore into it yet b/c ik how intricate ktms are and am not quite qualified, but i would like some wisdom of what is wrong or could possibly have broke and what would be best to do to fix it, Thanks i apologize for the long post

Hi and welcome to our forum.

A couple of quick things to check:

See if the decompression system did not lock in the on position (it happened to me on my RXC).

Drain the oil and look for metal debris.

Remove items #4 & 5 and inspect the valve train.

If one of the #13 lock nuts is gone (this is fairly common if the
lock nut was not tightened down after adjustment), it's down in
your timing chain.

Follow up.

yea i did as you said and found no problem with those lock nuts but when i dropped the oil a ridiculous amount of shavings came with it, so now im at the point where i have to tear into it my self to see what is wrong cuz no mechanic around me wants to work on a ktm, problem is i have the engine tear down manual and have the ambition just i dont have the special ktm tools, not sure what my next move should be

I'd pull #30 (might need to remove the shift lever) and
see if the clutch got fried. That's the easiest first check.
