Round 3 of the BEARs Club championships and round 2 of the Victorian Road Racing Series will be held at Winton on the 6/7 May. I have never ridden this track before so it will be interesting. We are doing the short track which is 2 kms long, the current BEARs formula 5 lap record is 1:12 something so thats the target. This is a very flat track with minimal undulations which is different to the other tracks we ride in the championship.
There is a National Championship race at Morgan Pk on the 13/14th May, the week after Winton. I wont be there as other commitments only permit me to do the club championship rounds not the nationals. But there will be a 2016 690 SMC and an 08 duke III running around in BEARs F5. Drop in and have a look and let me know what you think. The club series is Eastern Creek, Broadford, Winton and Wakefield Park. The Nationals are at Mt Gambier SA, Morgan Pk QLD, Hidden Valley NT, Phillip Island VIC, Eastern Creek NSW and Broadford VIC. I will be doing the Phillip Island round cause I love the track and do pretty well there. It is also a round of the Victorian Road Race Championship as are Broadford and Winton meaning I can compete in 2 championships at the same time......
Hey Jordo - what date the Wakefield Park meet? Always ready to support locals. Oh it's all right - I found the BEARS calendar. Are you doing Wakefield at the end of the month?
I was planning to but I will be doing Winton the week after instead, funds only allowed for one or the other so I can run in 2 championships at the same time at Winton. I am planning to do the August one tho. Are you southside or northside
Race report from Winton last weekend. Wow what a track, short and technical with decreasing radius corners to keep your head in the game a a couple of short straights. Due to National commitments some of the regulars were not in attendance but my main rival for the club championship was so it made for and interesting weekend of racing. Qualified 2nd in F5 BEARs with a 1:14:3 which was not bad considering I had never ridden or seen the track before. Race 1 had me in 2nd at the first corner behind my rival and thats where we finished up. The first 3 bikes finished the race .8 of a second apart with my fastest being 1:13:3. Race 2 was even closer with the top 3 finishing only .5 sec apart after the 7 laps with me having the fastest lap and breaking the BEARs F5 lap record with a 1:11:7 even though I finished 3rd. The next 2 races on Sunday I got 2nds but finished in front of my rival. Improved on the lap record again by a second making it officially a 1:11:667. The end result is that I have secured the 2017 BEARs F5 Club Championship and now hold the Winton short track BEARs F5 lap record. BTW I am quite stoked as this was the goal I wanted to achieve from the outset so I am quite happy about the outcome. The other series I am running in has me in second place with 2 rounds to go. I can honestly say I have not had as much fun as I am having racing the 690. It is so close , sometimes frustrating, as passing is challenging on similar hp bikes but its such a hoot. My advise is get out and do it, you wont regret it..
that's right there exactly what it's all about. My racing days on motorbikes may be long passed now, but i still at times sit there and think of my times sitting on the grid, the battles, i still remember the guys i raced against, what they were on, where i passed (or was passed) them, etc etc.
These memories will stay with you forever... of that there's no doubt.
Great effort Jordo. Club Champion, lap record and a great day of racing to boot by the sounds of the report.
