Should I paint the Frame and what colour

I have finished rebuilding the engine on my 04 525. As the frame has nothing in it at the moment I have the opportunity to paint it. I personally am not the best when it comes to making bikes look good, just go good. I am only thinking about doing it as the new owner of my old 05 said it would've been good if I had painted the frame. It was a reasonably tidy bike.
Should I paint it and what colour (sorry color for the americans) would you recommend?
It is the original gold colour and plastics are all original, Basically apart from graphics it looks just like my old 05 as attached except my 04 has black rims.

I'm thinking something close to black and not to glossy. I see the later bikes have orange frames, but I think that could be to much orange?

If your bike has a bit of bling on it already I'd go for a black frame. But if you are low on the bling factor, an orange frame does look really nice, even better in person. Just make sure the orange is the signature KTM orange.

Cheers mate, I am going to go with black. I am going to paint the engine with the alloy colour I have in engine enamel, Then I am going to paint the ktm letters on the clutch and flywheel cover ktm orange. I can't pain for sh*t though so who knows what it will look like

It will no doubt look a lot better than the current colour, that's for sure. Another thing that looks great is sandblasting the exhaust and putting a high temp clear coat on it. I let mine go a little blue and then chucked the clear coat on. It looks awesome and will hopefully stop it going rusty.

It wont rust, I got that covered, Mine is that stainless one I posted about a few months back
It is actually the pipe pictured on my 05 at the start of the thread. It was back firing when I went to sell the bike and the customer was happy for me to swap my old one over so it wouldn't backfire.
It's leaking at the manifold so I guess I better fix that as well.

Trying to figure out what kind of paint to use to paint the frame with. Can't get it powder coated because of the compliance sticker, 2pack would be best, but don't want to spend that much money on paint just to paint the frame.
I have heaps of engine enamel, but I don't think that will work to well. I will have to check and see if I have any black acrylic.

Enamel or acrylic should work fine I would think. About the leaking manifold, how do you go about fixing it? I've plugged mine with high temp copper silicone. I'm yet to put it through it's paces and see if it'll last.

I will probably do the same, just for the moment, But I have a couple idea's I want to try. would be good if I could just weld the pipes straight onto the flange joint and weld it all the way around, sealing it, but I don't think you would be able to remove it out past the frame then. Copper shim material was another plan.
I have thought about making the ends of the pipes like the earlier split header type and weld in internal piece of pipe inside the 2 ends.
The other thing I could try is to flare the flange joint pipes out so that the pipe is a dead tight fit.
I will keep you posted on what I end up doing.

Slapped some paint on it today. Doesn't look to bad. I still have to lay some clear on it tomorrow. Got the primer on around lunch and the colour on by 4, but by then I was a fair few beers down and high on paint fumes.

What do you think?
