kick starter occasionally stuck 01 400exc

Hi I have a 2001 400 exc. i just got this bike on a trade and noticed that the kick start lever gets stuck sometimes when I go to start up the bike. I have searched everywhere for someone else who has had the same problem but I find nothing. all of the other bikes I have are so easy to kick start and the kick start lever is nice and soft to kick and this one for some reason, at the top of the kick, is super stiff and wont budge at some points but if I slowly put pressure on it, it will eventually go down. i can get it to turn over and the bike runs just fine but for some reason, like I said it gets super stuck at the beginning of the kick. Is this just a ktm thing or do I have a problem?

There definitely is something not quite right with your kick starter. Is it stiff everytime you kick it? Can you bump start the bike relatively easy? I'm thinking it's either something to do with the kick starter assembly or the auto decompression mechanism isn't working correctly.

+1 on jacks comment on the auto de-comp may not be working.
I have not seen to many of these with a kick starter shaft issue, Have seen a few with auto de-comp problem.
Broken spring was popular on the auto de-comp I think from memory Jack?
