Thumbs up Need Advice on buying a 2003 KTM 250 EXC-G 4-Stroke

Hi all, I am a suzuki rider looking to buy my first KTM for both me and the wife and would appreciate any feedback regarding what I should look for etc, and any gotchas I should be aware of.

So I am looking to purchase the following used bike:

2003 KTM 250 EXC-G 4-Stroke.

Full Exhuast
Full Dual Sport kit
Trip / Speedo Digital Unit
Overall good condition
Registered and Titled as a motorcycle
Price $2500

Reasoning:

Basically I want good fast reliable Dual Sport Dirt Bike that I can legally ride on the road and take to work 2 miles down the road. I would prefer a 450 or 525 but my wife is begging me to teach her how to ride, and I dont think she could handle anything bigger then a 250 and she sure as **** aint touching my GSXR1000K7.

Concerns:

What Id really like to know is what this bike should come with stock so that I know im not getting beat. For instance is this year bike supposed to come with Excel Rims, brembo brakes etc. Also are there any known issues or common problems with this bike that I should be looking out for like a leaky gasket or bad bearings etc.

Reviews:

Does anyone here currently own this bike and give it the thumbs up. Would an experienced rider like myself thats used to a 1000cc sportbike still find this bike fast enough to have fun.

Deal:

Does this sound like a good price to pay for this bike, should I try to haggle more or is $2500 fair.

Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to address these ?'s

Default free repair manuals

At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate. I am looking for a repair manual that I can download for free. I have tried carlsalter.com and the manual on there that would apply is in German. I don't speak or read German. Does anybody know of another site where I can find a manual for my 1984 Ktm mx 250????

You won't find anything going back that far for free (unless it's pirated *see forum rules*).

I found some on ebay for under $10.

Default Free manuals

Right on Bajadog. Thanks for responding. I noticed that there wasn't much in the way of anything but a few cool photos for the old bikes. I guess I should take the hint and update my toys. The bike(KTM Mx 250) has just been that good of a bike. The thing's a tractor when I need it to be and it's a mountain goat when I need it to be that. Buuut A newer bike wouldn't hurt.

scurb, if you ever get the chance to ride a 2005 and up KTM 300 EXC 2 stroke,
you will be left with the biggest smile on your face. I wish I had closer non-street legal riding place to where I live. I'd own one.
