Default Which bike for me? 250xcw or 300xcw

Hi guys,

My first post here, looks like a great site. I've seen quite a few posts similair to mine but wanted some feedback on my situation so sorry to ask this question again. I've read several reviews on the 2 strokes and they seem like the perfect bike for me, I'm just unsure what bike is right. I am 36 yrs old, 175 lbs, 5'-7" and consider myself a begineer to intermediate rider. I use to have a CR250 8 years ago(2 years riding experience back then) and got back into the sport last year when I purchased a used '02 400exc. It was a great bike but found it was a little heavy for me, especially in the rough stuff. I just like to hit the casual offroad trails with friends and will never go to the track to race. I was looking at a new 250xcw or 300xcw but not sure what to expect since I have not ridden either of them and have no access to them. I was comfortable with the power of my 400 and I liked how much power it had down low. I have read lots of review saying the 300 is easier to ride. I am not quite a beginner but I would not really consider myself an intermediate yet, would the 300 be too much bike for me for my purpose?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and sorry for another 250 or 300 post.

Mike

Talking

Hi Mike,

Welcome to KTMforums.

If it were me, and I was a high end beginner, or low end intermediate rider,
I'd probably go for the 250 power wise. You are pretty light, and I have
ridden a 300 (my buddy's) , and it was real scary fast (I am 6'2" 210lbs).

I don't think there is a great weight difference, just power/torque.

I know when I went from my KDX 450 to the IT 465 (too many years ago),
the power difference almost cost me a few broken bones.
Granted I am only talking 20 cc's or so, but it hit hard off the line.

I'd fish tail off of a corner, and just about go off trail.

That's when I went to 4 strokes.

What's the cost difference?

Regards,

Marco

Thanks for the feedback Marco.
That's exaclty what I was thinking and leaning more towards.

The cost difference is around $600 for 2010 models.
Right now, I'm looking at a new '09 250xcw as opposed to an '10 300xcw and the difference at the dealer is $1600 CDN. Both brand new and stock.

I think I'll just bite the bullet and pick up the '09 250xcw. I don't think I can go wrong with that decision. Either way, I'll be happy, I'm getting a new bike.
