Default Nightmare oil change

I'm new here, just joined today. I joined for two reasons. I love to ride orange bikes. I followed a neighbor of mine through the desert today at mach 1 speeds. Well, he was going mach 1 on his 525 exc, I was eating dust as fast as I could.

Second reason for joining, I was changing the oil in mine & my wifes 05 450 exc's tonight & I stripped out the oil plug on the bottom of the motor. The one with the 8mm allen head.

It took me two hours to get it out. I had my wife take a pic. I'll try to post it tomorrow, you'll laugh your bleeping head off.

Hope to learn lots from you guys.

Bruce

Welcome.

If you've already replaced the bolt with another stock one,
oh well, but if not, this is worth the $20.

Very resourceful Bruce!

I would never have thought of suspending my bike.

I ended up pulling the engine out of my last RFS bike when I stripped
the darn screen bolt. It did give me a chance to replace the
swing arm pivot bearing though.

Thanks. Glad to hear I'm not the only one to strip it out.

I've never hoisted my bike upside down B4 but I always hoist them & the quad to the ceiling (10ft) for oil changes. I put a table under them. Oil bucket on the table. This way I can swing the bike from side to side & raise & lower the front end to get much more oil out of it. Nice not to have to bend over as well. (I'm old lol) I use 1 ton chain hoists front & rear.

Is there a hex head version or a better one. Seems kind of soft.

Ya, it's a crappy design. Click on the link BajaDog provided. That is the hex bolt that replaces it.

The allen is a metric size. Make sure you get all of the dirt out of it B4 you try to get it out. Also, if you have a skid plate on, you may want to take it off so you can get closer to the plug. I cut off the correct allen wrench & put it in a socket, that helps to get it out as well. Make sure you tap the allen wrench in with a hammer B4 you start.
You are correct, the stock plug is very soft. Anti sieze was mentioned above. A must!!! Good Luck!
Hope this helps,
Bruce
