Default 300 EXC Gear Shifting Change

I want to change my 1-down - 4-up around to 1-up / 4-down, and would like some opinions about this. Is it not really worth it with extra linkage and other adjustments, or does it just sound dumb? First gear is "1-up" as in "GP-shift" with all my other bikes (street and roadrace), and wonder if anyone else tried this. Thanks for any help you can give a novice,
Tom

Wow that would be a serious project.

How good are you on a CNC lathe and at gear cutting?

Yes well ok it seems at first glance it could be slightly steep of a consept for lots of riders, and yes I have experience on lathe and milling machines, but more importantly I have a degree in ethnic engineering. Being smart about it and keeping safety in mind, I can come up with the piece that would work, but what are you refering to as to 'gear-cutting', and couldn't I adapt a reverse gear change kit for another KTM to fiut mine??

I would pose this question on thumpertalk.com but not make it KTM specific.

I think there would be a lot more folks that have transmission experience
there.

I myself am a mechanical engineer, but I don't have much experience with
automotive.

That's good, I'll check that out thanks! I think it's all only a customizing sort of thing, but it's not impossible. As an artist too, I can weld something to work, and maybe I'll patten / copywright it - who knows... I don't see very many riders looking to do this kind of bike mod, it's probably me going through my own 'Scientific Method' to an end.
Happy trails.

Default good thread !

I'm switching my YAM 400 trackbike to GP shift also. On a dirtbike application is a thought to consider. Please let us know, what progress you make on this.I'll give it some attention/research myself ..

Sure I'll try to do that, and maybe show some pictures as well. The whole thing about this is probably just mental, but I like to be consistant.

I'm too interested on how to change a dirt bike to GP shift. I am a new dirt bike rider but a long time street / road race rider. I'm way to used to GP shift and going back to standard shift on a dirt bike drives me nuts.

Yes I agree with you, that's why I'm trying to do this. Even though I have GP shifting on both my road race bikes and my street bike, sometimes I still screw up by downshifting in street traffic when I think I'm upshifting. I hate it when that happens.
