Default Trying to get back into riding, but my 300 EXC is making strange noises !!!

Hi guys,

I had a pretty serious accident about 6 months back (rode off a cliff) and had to put my bike away until my knee healed. Got the go ahead from my physio a few days back and decided to take the bike out for a spin. So I cleaned the air filter, emptied the fuel tank and carb and put in new fuel. After 6 months the bike kicked into life first try !

I took it out and it started to make some pretty strange noises, I know I didn't store the bike properly (taking oils out etc,) but I didn't have time after the surgery.

When the bike is in gear and I pull in the clutch the bike overrevs and keeps overreving until I release the clutch (it goes back into gear), then it goes back to sounding normal until I engage the clutch. There's obviously a problem somewhere and I would like to know if any of you have some pointers, the surgery completely wiped out my savings and if I can avoid a shop I will.

Thanks in advance KTMers !!

Sounds like your carb slide isn't making it all the way down to the idle stop. With some load on the engine it's not enough to cause an overrev until the clutch is pulled in which removes the engine load. When releasing your throttle you should be able to hear a a loud click when the slide hits the idle stop. Sounds like a carb cleaning may solve your problem.
