old ktm two stroke problems.

[87 ktm 350 exc two stroke]

so i got this 87 ktm 350 two stroke the other day. i tear this bike down, check it all out. its all pretty much good. but it didnt have spark. so then i get a new stator for it. the bike is an 87 350 enduro style. well on ebay i picked up an 85 ktm 250 stator for it hoping its the same. looks the same, same wires pretty much. well i put it on the bike and kick it over, it fires up, but it wont rev at all. when i rev it it just puffs more smoke and dont rev. i changed the timing all around and that didnt help it any.

so what could this be? it idles fine, it slightly revs up. but it wont rev hardly at all. idk what to do.

anybody got any ideas?

i pulled the reeds, they were fine, im thinking its timing, stator, or carby. not sure. its an 87, using a 85 250 mx stator. think that would be an issue?
