2004 ktm 250 excr for newbie

hi guys,
was thinking of getting a 2004 ktm excr with a motorex(?) engine. it has a motard set up. would this be a good bike. its beeing sold at around $5000 with 150 hours on it.
i used to ride a scooter and am deciding to upgrade to this model. It is also tempting to get a bigger displacement bike however my lack of experience is another reason for me to just start of with a smaller one.
