Wanted: Dakar 2012 Mechanic
We are an American Dakar team looking for a qualified mechanic to join our team. Successful applicant needs to have a raw passion for the Dakar. This year our team will include four motorcycle riders, two mechanics and a private support truck. All people riding and currently in the support truck have previous Dakar experience. This newly built support truck is committed to go to the Dakar for the next three years. Consider this rare opportunity to be apart of an American Dakar team and support truck as a foot in the door and it would look really good on your resume. A successful 2012 Dakar will only increase support and budget for future years.
Our budget will cover expenses while at the race and 60% of mechanic fees. Because of budget constraints we are looking for a person that is willing to pay their own air fare to and from the Dakar.
What do you have to do that is better than being in South America in January, waking up each morning to the sound of race motors for two weeks? That is, if you even got to sleep since you would be responsible to ensure that the motorcycles are ready to go for the normal 4 AM start times…
Bonus will be paid for riders completing the event. Skills required to be a successful candidate include:
- Completion of KTM training for RF4 and LC4 engines
- Experience with 2-stroke engines and tuning
- Experience with WP suspension
- Current employment at a KTM dealership
- Off-road or desert race experience, as a rider and as a mechanic
- Ability to work under pressure and make no mistakes
- Attention to detail is a must!
To apply, please email your resume and a letter expressing your passion for the Dakar to
Michael.Stanfield@freedomcyclesinc.com. In your resume, be sure to include all work related experience along with your riding/race experience. Resume and letter must be received by July 4th.
