Default 125SX oil

I'm relatively new to two-strokes, the only two-stroke I have other than the bike I just bought is my weed eater.

I'm guessing with a fine piece of equipment like my bike, there's a bit more science to the oil than buying the cheapest 2-stroke oil at Wal-mart and running at the manufacturer-recommended ratios...

I did some digging, and found this page on the KTM site: Fuel Recommendations PDF. Since my bike is a 2000, I should be running 1:40 to 1:60... There's also the PON / RON thing... Doing a bit of googling brought me to the conclusion that I should be using the premium gas then.

So now down to my questions:
A) Am I right that I need to be running 91 or better octane gas, at a 1:40 oil to gas ratio?
B) Should I be using some sort of fuel additive because of the ****ty ethanol blends that they're selling us now?
C) Is it worth it for me to buy a nicer 2-stroke oil, or am I fine sticking with the cheap crap I get at wal-mart (and what would be the benefit of the nice oil?)?

Thanks!

My thought is to run a full synthetic oil of your choice. I am a huge Red Line Oil fan so I love Red Line Racing 2T oil.

I would suspect that KTM recommended Motorex or our site sponsored Amsoil would make your scooter happy as well.

You get what you pay for is my motto!

Default 2smoke oil

I have a 04 125SX and it has been built since 2008.

It is a 134cc 2mm over with a WIESCO piston and a LA Sleeve cast iron liner.
I have used every 2 cycle oil from AMSOIL and the bike runs great!
I mix at 50:1 with AMSOIL DOMINATOR or INTERCEPTOR and lately I have been using the 100:1 SABER Marine Oil simply cause I have it.
The 125 seems to run alot cleaner and rev better with the 100:1
In the past few years I have run many gallons of gas mixed at 100:1 and never had the engine apart since I built it.

Oh and this is my first post on this site!

Maddiedog-
A) looks like you've done your homework. If you really want to treat your machine right you can ask your local bike shop (or hot rod shop) if they know where to get ethanol free fuel. Its still out there, for now....
B) when I cant get ethanol free I use a little Sta-bil. I don't know if it works but it makes me sleep better
C) quality premix oil is a must. A lot of guys run a full syn, I run a syn-blend and have had good results. Amsoil, Redline, Maxima (my choice), Golden Spectro, Motorex, etc, etc. As long as you run one of these at around 40:1-50:1 you should be happy.

and for the rest of you guys, I just dont have the danglers to run anything (weedeater included) at 100:1........

I used to think 100:1 was scary to use, for 10 years I ran it in my 1997 Kawasaki 1100cc jet ski
Ran perfect I still own it and it is apart now cause the last guy I let use it sunk it.
Cylinders and pistons look great still.

My 125SX has been run as hard as she will run since 2008 and it still runs great to this day. last few month's been mixing @ 100:1
In fact one of the last rides we did My partner did not want to use any AMSOIL in his bike that day, he had his own XCCEL 2 cycle he had lying around.
He rides a Kawasaki KX 250 and had ridden with us many times before using whatever AMSOIL we had, we shared.
That day he said I will use this stuff I will get by for today.
Rode all day long.
Last few miles I decided to run out my bike as fast as it would go. He tried to catch up and he did.

When we turned around to see where CoCo went we had to double back to find him. he killed the engine. welded the ring to the piston.
He was mixing at 40:1 using gas station brand XCCEL "Protect's like no other"

So we have a saying for CoCo now "Protects like no other" We miss riding with him.
