First of all, if you're looking for a track day tire these are not the ones to have unless it's raining. but, if you're looking for an all around excellent street tire, something to commute on, something to ride the twistys on the weekends and something to ride in a major rain storm the Dunlop D616 are the tires to have.
I bought these tires because I needed something to do everything. I ride everywhere and all the time in all weather conditions. I was planning on crossing the country with these tires as I have a trip scheduled for next year. Well, I have to admit generally quite pleased with these tires but there are a few issues that keep them from being perfect.
But the good stuff first. These tires are sticky. If you can ride hard and you like to ride hard, you should like these tires. I done dozens of early sunday morning rides and have easily takin the bike to the edge of the tires without any issues or problems. I have never had any problems keeping up with other riders on sport bikes. And on the cold damp mornings I was the one that they had problems keeping up with. Skill was not a factor with this group. It was is the tires.
But every tire has his weaknesses. The Dunlop D616 issues lies in its longjevity. I was hoping to get 4 to 6000 miles out of the rear tire. Its not going to happen. I only have about 3000 miles on the rear tire and I doubt I will get to 4k.
As for its appearance, it is menacing. I'm not sure what gets more attention. The rear tire or the SuperDuke. It has an aggressive tread design. The tread has massive blocks with deep grooves. I have noticed that the tires trend to follow grooved highways but not much more then the other tires. So that really isn't a huge issue.
The price is fairly acceptable and they come in a 180 and 190 series. Since my front tire still has a lot of life left I will buy another rear. After that, i'm not sure. But, I can certainly recommend this tire.
