Default Do you ride in winter?

OK so I'm walking downtown yesterday and I hear this lawnmower sound and I look up and here's this guy riding his scooter down the street. Now, I know, it's a scooter and not a bike but.... it started me wondering about something.

Do you ride your bike in the winter? If not, when do you consider conditions safe to do so? Do you wait till you see green grass or is a good melt enough to get you out there?

Default spring is upon us !

I admit to being a "fair weather"rider...when I was a young pup, I'd ride my DT-100B anytime, anyplace,or condition. Not now though. Motorcycling should be enjoyable. In cold, my body re-acts differently .I need 50+degrees to be in the happy zone, and even that isn't optimum .Here in the mid-Atlantic, those type days aren't real plentiful.I did ride the SM ro school last Monday.I'm now up to 321 miles since purchase in late fall '07.I should count myself blessed to have a new KTM SM, as they don't seem to be bringing in '08 models,yet... not SMRs, maybe SMs though ....I'll go see my local dealer tomorrow for an update on event schedule for M.I.R. They are supposed to be having some SUPERMOTO RACES this season! For those interested , check the E.S.M.R.A site for updates as well. I will post up, if I come up with reliable info.

very close to pulling the pin and gettin a new 08 SD at the end of the month.

i live in washington, d.c. and i rode my ducati monster 696 at least once every ten days. (when there was no chance of black ice). road salt was the biggest issue, and i probably spent as much time cleaning as i did riding.

coldest ride was 27 F. 40 F, no big problems, other than frozen hands and wearing ventilated summer boots. oxford hot hands helped stave off hyperthermia, along with my british motorcycle gear winter outfit. those foot warmers that come in packs are the only thing that made it possible. 2 in the boots and 2 in the jacket.

it's good to ride all year round. you learn a lot about grip.

Yes I do, because I just can't live without riding
In snow days, Its too safe to enjoy at home, but in normal winter days,I wear leather jacket, large boots and helmets, along with my winter coats, and ride like a bear

I hate to say it, but I'm also a fair weather rider. I hate cold too much, I guess that's why I moved back to Texas. Luckily our winter is short.

I can honestly say that I ride over 300 days a year. And it has been that way for the last 20 years.

Rain or sunshine. Hot or cold. I have a bike for the very rainy days and another bike for everything else. I find it a great way to commute and save money.

I also have a vintage Vespa which the wife and I use for our "dates" when we can arrange a babysitter. Scooters are a great way to get around San Francisco. It isn't fast but it is agile and friendly. And the pace is relaxed.

Being in San Francisco I am lucky that the climate allows for year round riding.

I also ride in the winter, the weather here in this part of Ca makes it pretty easy to do so. If I lived where it snowed I doubt I would ride dirt bikes but I'd probably get a snow mobile instead.
