Default Looking at a KTM 50 for my 5yr old

I am thinking about getting my 5 yr old son his first dirtbike, I know that the ktm 50 s are hot little bikes, my question is can they be detuned or speed limited a little so not to scare him the first time he gets on the bike. He weighs about 35-40 lbs and I think he is tall enough to touch the ground sitting on it.

He can ride his bicycle very well and I think he would do good on a motorcycle.
Thoughts or suggestions......

Just from my experience and getting my 2 sons, and daughter on
motorcycles. If they get scared, hurt or out of control at that age, it
would be hard to get them to ride later.

I started my sons at 6 and 6 1/2 and my daughter at 8, but
they ALL rode bmx first and quads.

Just my 2 cents.

That is a nice bike though.

That is what I am worried about, I would much rather him be on a bike than an ATV, I think the Kids ATVs are dangerous due to the weight if they flip over.

My son just turned 6 and he has been riding a 50 mini adventure and has had no problem adjusting to the power.

depends on the kid. honestly, I suggest you be looking for a PW50 for one that young and small. The 50MA will scoot along and is easily made much faster with a carb, pipe and SX clutch bevel washers.

Good advice in post 2. Very true about the scared factor.

I actually seen a post today on another forum saying to detune the 50's they actually take the carbi off diconnect the acceleration cable from the slide and put a small length of fuel line on the slide and reattach the cable, this is basically to limit how much the slide opens on acceleration.
Not sure how good it would actually work.
Cheers
