05 Mini Adv kick start not engaging

Any idea what would cause this. It causes sometimes and doesn't engage at others. I can't tell if a gear is stripped or if the mechanism that allows it to re-engage is sticking. It's an 05 Mini Adventure 50. Thx

take the clutch cover off and look at what's going on. It could be a number of things. These shear the gear on the crankshaft that the kick mechanism engages pretty easily. The nut on the craankshaft could have come loose as well. Been there on both of these.

I had the same problem, what i did was i put the clutch back in and then put the washer and nut on and tightened up when in fact there was not meant to be a washer on it. This caused the gears not to engage properly. I just happen to have a washer sitting next to me at the time when putting the clutch back in so i assumed it was from the bike, stupid me!

So you didn't add a washer by any chance?
