Default 1st dirtbike! 250 sx

Hello everyone, glad to be here and learn all that there is to know. I have been riding street bikes for the last ten+ years, but never a dirt bike. I just bought my buddies 2004 250sx off of him since he has only ridden it about 30hrs (WHAT HE TELLS ME) do to his travel for his job.

The bike is fully stock and i would like to make some upgrades...anything and everything will be replaced, cost is not an issue and any sugestions will be greatly aprecieated.

THANKS IN ADVANCED!!!

Congrats!

What kind of riding do you plan to do is my first question?

Ask your buddy if the jetting is stock.

When was the transmission oil changed last?

The jetting is stock.
Trans oil changed once.

Supercross: If you and your friend don't weigh within 5 pounds of each other,
I'd look at getting the suspension dialed in first. Nothing can ruin your
day more than a hard landing due to incorrect suspension.

Check the plug to see if you are running too rich or lean.

CHANGE the transmission oil, it's cheap, and better than changing
parts.

True on the suspension, my buddy weights about 180 and I'm 220
so i will definatly be looking into that, any recomendation as far as after market set-ups or would the stock componets be fine?

Plug is is definatly riched out and the top of the cyclinder is black, almost burned...heavy carbon build up maybe....

We cracked the case last night so new fluids are definatly goin in! get it running smooth again.

Thanks.

You weigh the same as me.

I'd contact Jeff Slavens for all my suspension work.

This is the same bike I wanted to get but a 2010 unless I found a good deal on a used one, but if you're doing supercross you might try adding a tooth or 2 to the back sprocket to boost the bottom end and a shorter silencer for more response.
