Howdy, just joined. Trying to get rid of my Raptor quad and get a big boy 2 wheel bike (posted a thread in two-stroke section on current situation). My first preference is KTM since it's not a japanese brand, and they are just bad a$$. Haven't owned one yet, but they really catch my eye when I see one go by.

More about myself. I live in Butte, Montana. Work at a gold mine for now, but going to school in the second semester for engineering. I've been drag racing on asphalt for 13 years, and have won a few championships. Cars have been my thing for a long time, but I'm stretching into the off-road world. My favorite of all my things though is my 2 1/2 year old daughter. I'm more excited for her to start racing than me being behind the wheel. Anyway I hope to be getting a KTM soon so I can spend some more time out in the trees and talking about it here.

Welcome Gump.

Well you live in the right part of the lower 48 to ride off road.

Not sure what the laws are in your state, but beware that a LOT of
states are starting to make trails available to plated dual sport bikes
only.

Keep us posted on your what bike you end up with.

Montana isn't doing that, at least not yet. The trails we ride here are all designated OHV trails. As long as you don't ride on the road without a plate there's no trouble.

Good to hear that at least the tree huggers have not
got to your state yet.

My buddy in Nevada tells me that a lot of the BLM
land he used to ride on, now requires a plate.
He even said that some BLM rangers were
turning bikes away with out spark arrestors.

I know spark arrestors are a big deal here, and the new sound law. I think it's just lax enough around here no one cares. People cruise their bikes and quads around down all the time without any trouble.
