Default 2001 520 modded to 580 advice?!?

I am looking at purchasing a 2001 Ktm 520 with a big bore kit to 580. He says it rides and drives fine but needs a new gasket kit because it leaks some oil. He said at a drip rate of 1 drop every couple of minutes. He is asking $1000. What are your thoughts good or bad deal or would I be in over my head? I am a decent mechanic but I have not worked on motorcycles really. Any thing you Have would help! Thanks!

Depends where it is leaking from.

If you have to split the case, you will need to buy or borrow a few special
KTM tools.

What condition is the bike in (thrashed)?

I am not entirely sure of the condition, just seen pictures but want to seek some advice before i go further. I am fearing it is where the case comes together by what the guy has told me. And that is probably out of my skill level unless i had a good manual, and getting it done at a shop is out my budget. So i am unsure, assume condition is not horrible with the work needed done, what is too much for this bike? Also do you know a good manual or a free manual or where to go about getting one? Thanks alot for your help!

I would really try to determine the site of the leak before you
invest any more time into that bike. If it is the case gaskets, it's
a fairly complex job, and you might as well replace other things while
you have the bike apart (valve job, piston rings, possibly crank bearings,
clutch plates).
