Shopping for a bike after a 10+ year break. Formerly a sport bike/sport-tour type, but find the dual sport thing compelling. I'd considered a cruiser until I demo'd a Tiger 800XC, and was the most comfortable riding position of any bike I've ever ridden. My messed up knees and neck rejoiced! After that I was fairly certain I prefer the dual sport setup, whether or not I go off road.

My riding will be weekend day rides, some commuting and short overnight trips. I have no aspirations of being a Dakar racer, but like the idea of exploring dirt/gravel on occaision.

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of reading up, and find the KTM's very interesting. I understand all that Teutonic elan' comes with some maintenance drama, but I'm fairly handy with tools and have opposable thumbs...

Anyway, I'll be poking around here asking questions, primarily interested in the 990 Adventure or the SM-T.

I rode a friend's 2010 990 Adventure down a fast washboard
road. Talk about supple suspension but scary fast.
You can find used models out there for under $10K.
