Default just got a new lithium battery and love it!

Hey, I ride a 300XC and I bought a lithium battery from EarthX a few months ago and I am so impressed I had to tell you about it. It's worth checking out!

Sounds great.

Googled EarthX, but could not find the battery site.

Dear bajadog,

The website for the battery is www. earthxmotorsports.com. Another thing that is cool about this battery is you do not have to buy the special charger to keep the warranty in tack....like the other lithium batteries out there. I don't usually take the time to "promote" a product but this one is really impressive.

Something tells me you will be seeing a Lithium battery in most of the bikes here soon I have never heard anything bad about them. I'm also glad to see there is another company making them.

I put a Shorai in the 690 this past summer. Been under a cover in the garage for about 2 months not on the 'tender. It cranked right up yesterday with no issue. Great little battery.

Barman,

I considered a Shorai but in order for it's warranty to work, and the battery itself, you have to charge your battery every month....with their charger or the warranty is void. (That is why it has the special plug in on the battery). It's kinda like buying a new bike and not ever changing the oil on it, it will continue to run for a certain length of time but eventually it won't. There is no exact "time" before it won't crank your bike but it will definitely shorten the length and performance on the battery if you don't maintain it. The EarthX battery you don't have to do ANYTHING for maintenance since it has the built in management system. I wouldn't throw the Shorai away or anything but maybe check out EarthX for your next battery.

Shorai has stated that a Battery Tender will work just fine.
I was just doing a bit of testing to check the cranking ability after some cold temperature storage to satisfy my own curiosity. I'm hooked on the lightweights now and would certainly give another proven brand a shot.

Q. Can I use Lead-Acid battery chargers or charger/tenders?
A.Yes. HOWEVER, you may NOT use a charger/tender if it has an automatic "desulfation mode", which cannot be turned off. We have confirmed with Deltran, makers of the "Battery Tender" brand, that their products do NOT have a desulfation mode,

I'd be curious to see how your testing works out on the CCA. Try putting it in the freezer first for a half hour. I tested my EarthX battery and it was actually better then the stated CCA. I'd love to see how the Shorai test as well. And I know the Shorai site says a "regular battery tender" will work but it WILL NOT balance your cells as ALL lithium batteries require. Even a cordless drill has a built in balancer for it's lithium battery. If the cells are not balanced, it can overcharge and destroy the battery. That is why Shorai sells a charger made specifically for their battery and has the special plug in built into their battery, they know you have to balance it and the only way to do it is by buying their charger.

If it needs a balancer then explain how the charging system on your motorcycle handles the task of balancing individual cells?

It has a built in circuit board right on the battery itself. I am not a battery expert by any means, I just did a lot of research before buying my lithium battery and on Wikipedia I goggled battery management systems to see what all the hoopla was about and I understood it to say that ALL lithium batteries have to have either a built in balancer or a special charger or the cells will not be balanced and effect the performance and life of a battery.
