New to KTM

My wife surprised me last week by buying me a new 2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke. I had been shopping around for a new bike for street riding and was deciding between a Hypermotard SP or the Super Duke. My wife liked the Super Duke better so took maters in to her own hands. Anyway, I drove home from a project in Oklahoma City to find that I couldn't park in the garage because there was a new bike in the way!

Naturally the weather immediately turned to crap but I rode it anyway. I need to shop for winter gear.

One of the things I was looking for is a bike that would tolerate me doing dumb things like dirt roads or other adventures. It seems to do just fine but will need different tires:

I've already put on a fender eliminator

I think the bike looks a lot better without that huge piece of plastic hanging off its butt. I'm also please at how easy this bike is to work on. Installing the fender eliminator on the 848 was a major project. For this project I just had to pull 4 screws and disconnect the wiring harness. The Yoshimura kit is pretty nice and easy to assemble. My only complaint is the need to splice in a new connector, but no biggy. I also added Tech Spec tank grips which I've had on all of my bikes.
Finally I have the side bags and tail bag on the way.

The only other changes I plan are to add heated grips and I'd like to find brush guards like the Hypermotard has. I think they'd help with cold weather riding by keeping some of the wind off my hands. I might also do a skid plate because of the previously mentioned dumb things I plan to do with this bike.

So...does anybody know where I can find brush guards for the Duke?

Awesome...just read your post to the wife 😁

I went to 3 dealers today driving all day. Got some conflicting information on price and warranty and not sure how good their service center is.

One tried to sell me their inhouse remap with the exhaust

Another tried to sell me a 2015 SDR as new with 500miles on it

My wife paid me back for buying my SDR, with my own money, by maxing out a 5 figure CC I had just paid off. double down on your wife having a sister and maybe throw in a divorce lawyer.

It just gets better and better:

I'm really annoyed with the dealer now. They quoted $500 in services to install the fender eliminator and the side bag carriers. I did everything without any fuss. The only issue is that it turns out that the Yoshimura fender eliminator w/ stock signals doesn't fit with the side bags. The stock signals stick out too far. I either need smaller signals or I'll make a modified bracket to position the signals for this setup.

The carriers remove the side panels but you can put them back over the attachment points if you want to run without the bags on. You just have to remove two screws for the smaller panels and put the stock ones back on.

The bags are pretty nice. They're big enough to allow you to carry a lot of gear without turning your bike in to a pick up truck.

Can't wait to get out and do some longer rides.

Have any more pictures with the bags installed? Sometimes you have to do the work yourself to be done right, or for the correct price!

A demo model isnt a new bike !!?? How much did they offer? My local dealer has some 15's left overs and i've seen some 2016's for $13,500 but require some travel.
