Default 690 SMC Stalling issues post slip-on

Hey guys thanks for your attention,

I've done quite a bit of research on this topic, but haven't found anything that is current.

I love my 08 690 SMC, and i'm having a lot of trouble with my bike stalling incessantly since I have installed an FMF Apex muffler. It stalls without fail literally every time I approach idle, and there is an atrocious tendency for the bike to hesitate and stall when I roll on the throttle from idle. It's basically unridable.

According to what i've read I must:

1. reset the FI and let the bike idle for 15 minutes ? - didn't work.
2. remap to akro map? - haven't done it, don't know if the dealer will, but will ask tomorrow
3. Check if the reluctor ring has slipped. - no idea what to do here, but should I ask the dealer to check it along with #2?

Is there a consensus solution to this issue? I sincerely appreciate anyones help/advice on this.

Default mapping issues.....

I have an '09 690 Duke. Had the same problems after installing the FMF pipe. I had the dealer load the Akro map and all is good now.
Hope that helps you.

I've been having the same problem with my 08 SMC with a Leo Vince slip-on, though not quite as severe. It only ever stalls when starting the bike, sometimes taking a good 6 or 7 starts before it idles smoothly and stays running. Once it's running, it's fine. I'm assuming that this also is a mapping issue, and will try a remap. I know that there are different maps already loaded on the bike. Is the akro map dealer specific, or would trying the currently loaded maps be an at-home option? I don't want to possibly damage the engine. Anyone have any experience with trying the numerous factory loaded maps on aftermarket exhaust systems?

Smile mapping

Hi there
It's definitely 100% a mapping issue, the SMC computer is very sensitive but once mapped it'll work no problem, if a dealer or bike shop fitted the pipe they should have done this

Default HP #s

Just for the hell of it, I put the Duke on a dyno on the weekend. 58.9 HP to rear wheel, not bad. FMF pipe with Akro map. I still get the occasional code ......the eight count. Doesn't seem to affect performance though.

Those are nice numbers on the dyno.

That code is your accelerator position sensor. Too high or too low. It is different than the throttle position sensor but you could try a very simple and fast throttle reset if you want. Turn the ignition on but dont start the motor. slowly twist the throttle to wide open then slowly bring it back to its idle stop then turn ignition off, done. Start the motorcycle and see if it helps.

I'll agree with all the other posters - I just got my SM back today and WOW what a difference. A completely different bike.

Below is the list of changes:
-Wings titanium slip ons
-remapping using Akra maps
-remove 2 and 3rd gear wirie
-remove all emissions material
-K and N filter
-throttle tamer (from ktmcycelhutt)

The bike has come alive - no stalling, no lugging, a completely different bike
all together - I am in love all over again.
