Default 990 SM suspension setting advice

Hey Guys

New here, first post. HELLO to everyone.

Iv ordered the 990 sm (2nd hand 2008 model) and it arrives in just over a week, really cant wait.

with regards to setup in the manual there is the comfort setting-default setting and sport.

Is there a noticible difference between the two? I would be looking for performance and handling more so than comfort and would reckon the sport setting is the way to go, but would rather have feedback from someone that has tried both settings. The roads are not great where i stay! The occasional track day will also be thrown in :-)

Thanks guys!

Hi Jay,

Welcome.

I can't speak about your suspension question, I am an off road guy mostly.

Sounds like you have a sweet bike.

Hopefully some road guys will chime in soon.

Hi JayJ,

I recently got a 990SM as well. Upgraded from my 690 duke. It's a lovely bike, but i was quite disappointed with the handling of it when i first got the bike. Front felt like it kept wanting to wash out. first thing i did was go to the sport setting.
After that, i lowered the front yoke by 10mm, then cranked up the rear preload by 2mm. Much better, bike turned on a dime. However, i found it too stiff for road use and the chassis got upset by mid corner bumps etc. What i have now is:
Decrease front fork yoke by 10mm, increase rear preload 2mm.
recommended road settings for damping settings.
Perfection!
Hope you find your ideal setup soon
