I have a problem with my 2000 LC4 supermoto. When I push the start button the starter engages and almost immediately partially disengages with a graunching noise(The engine not turning but starter is noisily) The top end was off recently for head gasket replacement ann valve timing was set up as per manual.The starter was there before recent work.The bike now wont start as the engine does not rotate enough and I cannot start on kick start it appears stiff and seems to lock up now and again. THe Battery is fully charged and I also tried Jumping with another battery. What am I looking for with starter.

Just to clarify, it won't start with the kick starter either?

Are using the compression release?

I have a 2002 640 LC4 (same engine as yours), and
it does kick start if you use the compression release
properly.

If it won't then you might have some real bad internal
engine issues.
