I need help with my 550mxc project.

Hello all. I need to pick some brains. I just picked up a project 550mxc. Its pretty much all there. Mainly I need piston and rings to get it running again (perhaps a re-nickle too). After I get it running, I'm gunna try and restore it back to its former glory.

I'm looking for production dates and what parts are interchange able. Besides the engine work, I need a front brake caliper, gas cap, air filter, rear fender, shifter lever and new throttle cable with tension nut.

If I can find those parts off of other bike I'll be more then happy. If I can find a whole plastics swap, I'll be ecstatic! I plan to make it look modern KTM, orange and black. I can even make a graphix kit for it that looks like the modern ones too.

Any and all information will be a huge help. Thanks in advance. Plenty more pictures to come.

Yeah, I tried to siogn up on that site but my "free: email isnt allowd? WTF. Hahaha. Anyways, I have made some progress on parts but still finding it hard to get any Info on this particular make and model.

Good luck, it takes a bit of effort to ride and repair a bike with almost no aftermarket or factory support, but it can be done. "

I have scowered ebay and man people an there sure do like to rape the owners of a rare bike. $50 for a shift lever!!! ect. Hahaha. I knew KTM's are expensive but some of this stuff is ludicrous. I have also been in contact with seven4. I an getting a piston kit from them. Great guys to work with. Never heard of DC plastics so I will have to check them out.

What year?

I have some good resources for parts (my wife has a moto shop).

She is really good at finding obscure parts.

Baja, the resto was awesome. Thats exactly what I want to do to this thing, once I get it up and running.

Its a 93 (?) thats what the title says. But I'm beginning to think its a 94. They only made this bike for a couple years, so any info or parts you can find would be a huge help! It's my project once this weather breaks. I found a front brake for $45 shipped. I was happy about that!

I'm planning on getting the filter, grips, and cables here soon, all new stuff.

Still need a gas cap, rear fender and shift lever. Then of course the engine work. Once I get it all together and running, I'm tearing it apart and doing a restro/rebuild. Not stock but it will look good. Gunna keep the purple/yellow/green color scheme in the graphic kit I'm makin for it.

Any and all help is really appreciated.
